At present, it is relatively easy to find furniture, clothing and other decorative items with this style. Although part of the magic of the genre is to adapt second-hand metal items to a more modern and fanciful style.

The unique appearance offered by this bold mixture of ideas, where machinery worthy of the industrial revolution becomes true pieces of Gothic arts, ends up creating an elegant and very versatile style, which we can adapt to our tastes easily.

Design basics: Steampunk colors

Steampunk color palette puts us in front of a theme where dark and metallic colors are dominant. Whether copper, brown or black, this rusty and industrial appearance is what makes us experiment with Victorian elements and maintain the futuristic fantasy.

These colors can be combined with other neutral tones, but unlike other styles such as minimalism, here we must ensure that they are as dark as possible.

To create some contrasts it is essential to use just the right amount of light colors within the composition, although this can be resolved if we simply add metallic tones to the environment.

The fact that we are dealing with an industrialized style doesn’t mean that we cannot add colors such as blue or green, as long as they remain within a dark spectrum it will work perfectly within the steampunk color scheme.

As we mentioned previously, the Steampunk color palette has a strong use of metallic objects of worn appearance. These, with the help of dark colors that give it a gothic tone, create a feeling of warmth that allows keeping the rooms cozy.

Copper and bronze are metals that have a Steampunk appearance by nature and are easily moldable to make any kind of mechanical part.

As the design, in general, does not have shiny finish metals, it is complemented with matt colored walls and floors. In the case of floors, some choose to leave it without any coating to achieve a rustic appearance, while the walls benefit from the finishes in eggshell and with the installation of wood details.

If we select the right materials, half of the decoration work will be ready, since we will not need additional touch-ups to make them work within the environment. Similarly, if we use materials that adapt to the Steampunk theme from the beginning, we can make future changes more easily.

As it is inspired by the industrial revolution, it is normal for us to have many materials made of copper. However, you cannot let rust be the only thing that prevails since to preserve the Victorian appearance you need to mix some luxurious-looking colors.

Today, exposed bricks are still widely used in all types of constructions, and if we look for the industrial style of Steampunk, this may be an economical solution to achieve it.
